This week we are back in the Big Apple with the first place New York Mets.  Farley and Who predicted that the Mets will win the NL East.  The other mortals on our podcast did not.

Ed, Farley and Mark will explore New York City and we’ll learn lots from our three great guests.  Rob Walch from Wizzard Media will review our brand new Baseball PhD iPhone app.  Richard Sanford from Lingo Planet Bicycle Tours will show us that there is no better place to see NYC than on the seat of a bike (sorry horse lovers).  And finally,  Stephen Contursi from Ballparks Across America will review Citi Field and the Mets.

Neil Diamond - New York City born and raised

You haven’t been to Fenway Park if you haven’t sung Sweet Caroline with the crowd during the bottom of the 8th.  In the first video below, sing with the crowd as they sing Sweet Caroline during the 8th inning of the 7th game of the 2007 ALCS.  After the song, the Red Sox scored 6 runs and advanced to the 2007 World Series.

The second video is the ultimate.  Neil Diamond, in concert at Fenway Park.  Only in America can a singer from Brooklyn be adored by Red Sox faithful.  What a country!

Our podcast featuring the Boston Red Sox will be released on Friday, April 23, 2010.

Fenway Park

It’s a rare event when a team hits four home runs in a row.  But it happens.  No team has hit 5 home runs in a row.

On April 22, 2007, the Boston Red Sox were hosting the New York Yankees when the Red Sox hit 4 home runs in a row.

One of those four Red Sox also hit a home run the year before as part of his team’s 4 home runs in a row.  Who was that Red Sox player?  The answer is in the video below.

The oldest ballpark in the Major Leagues is Boston’s Fenway Park.  Fenway Park opened on April 20, 1912 (same day that Tiger Stadium opened which was originally known as Navin Field).  Below are two videos that can provide any fan with the insight on why 98 year old Fenway is a historical gem.  The first will provide the ambiance of Fenway.  It was shot in 2005.  The second is an example of the excellent hourly tours that the Red Sox provide to the public.  It was shot in 2007.

Jack Norworth is not a household name but everyone knows his lyrics.  Norworth, an actor, singer and songwriter was riding a train in New York City during the Summer of 1908.  During that train ride, Norworth was inspired by a sign advertising an upcoming game at the Polo Grounds.

Norworth put a pen to paper and wrote this smash hit.  Thirty-two years later in 1940, Norworth attended his first Major League Baseball game.  The audio below is from 1908.

Nationals Presidents

Cherry Blossoms,  Congress,  Racing Presidents and your money.  This week we are in our Nation’s capitol where all four can be found.

We start our podcast by making a u-turn and taking a quick jaunt back to Minneapolis to interview Kevin Smith, Executive Director of Public Affairs for the Minnesota Twins.  Kevin gives a a recap of Target Field opening day.

Next Ed, Farley and Mark discuss the great features of our Nation’s capitol and Nationals baseball.  Gina Leo Stingley from Populous teaches us that Nationals Park is a green park in a city on a hill that would make any environmentalist proud.  Ed then interviews Frank Ceresi, co-author of the book, Baseball Americana – Treasures From The Library of Congress.  (FYI.  Library of Congress is archiving all Twitter messages!)

Ed, Farley and Mark then conclude the podcast with excitement as they leave the green ballpark in D.C. for next week’s podcast destination – the green monster at Fenway.
