2001 World Series

Many teams never get to experience the thrill of ending the post-season with a win.  The Arizona Diamondbacks won the 2001 World Series by defeating the New York Yankees in seven games.  It was only the fourth season for the D-backs.

Diamondback pitchers, Curt Schilling and Randy Johnson were World Series Co-MVPs.  Listed below are the eleven teams that have not won a World Series during the past fifty years!

Chase Field Stamp

Baseball in the desert with air conditioning.  What could be better, maybe a pool and some Panda Express?  Chase Field was built in 1998.  The Diamondbacks have never had another home field.  It has natural grass and was the first retractable dome built in the United States.

This week is Diamondbacks’ week with our June 11, 2010 podcast featuring the Arizona Diamondbacks. Arizona is home to one of the seven natural wonders of the WorldThe Grand Canyon.  The Grand Canyon is 228 miles from stunning Phoenix and 277 miles from beautiful Las Vegas.  The best rim to visit is the South Rim.

During our Cactus League podcast (Episode 2), we interviewed Marvelous Marv who conducts tours of the South Rim.  Since that interview, we’ve gotten feedback from our listeners who have taken a Marvelous Marv Grand Canyon tour and confirmed that it is second to none.

We are back in the Windy City for the last time in 2010.  So much to see and do, Michigan Avenue, Navy Pier and Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower).  Ed, Farley and Mark review the many sights including Michigan Avenue.  Ed then interviews baseball researcher, Jim Nitz as they review the 1988 baseball classic movie, Eight Men Out.  The Wise Guys battle it out over baseball history, live at US Cellular Field. The podcast concludes as Ed, Farley and Mark prepare to leave the Windy City and head for the next best place for citizens of ChicagolandPhoenix and the Valley of the Sun.

Professor Bukiet takes the lead!

What a difference a month makes!  On April 2nd, our PhD committee along with Professor Bruce Bukiet and Rodney Johnson made their 2010 Major League predictions.  Thirty days ago, Rodney Johnson from playballexperience.com had the most accurate predictions.

After two months of baseball, Professor Bukiet is in the lead with 4.5 points.  Ed Kasputis and Mark Rantala are tied for second with with 3.5 points.  Bukiet predicted that the Twins, Yankees, Rays, Cardinals and Braves would make the playoffs.  Bukiet earned .5 points since the Cardinals are tied for first with the Reds.  Ed predicted that the Twins, Yankees, Cardinals and Braves would make the playoffs.  Mark predicted the Rays, Twins, Yankees and Cardinals would make the playoffs.

Our 2010 Major League predictions will be measured again on July 1, 2010.
