PETCO Park is the beautiful home of the San Diego Padres. Ed, Farley and Mark will be reviewing this ballpark during our podcast featuring the San Diego Padres. This podcast will be released on Friday, July 16th.
PETCO the pet supply retailer purchased the naming rights when the park opened in 2004. This ballpark is by the San Diego Bay but you cannot see the bay from any vista from your seats. The ballparks’ fixed seating capacity is 42,500 with an additional 3,500 places for lawn seating and standing room only.
Ed Kasputis visited PETCO Park on June 28th. ”Bring a windbreaker. To my amazement it was cold and slightly spitting but the ballpark is beautiful and a must see for any fan seeking a Baseball PhD.” Kasputis continued, “the Padres have had only three rainouts in 25 years. Their version of June gloom is a gray day with no chance of rain.”

Kroc Saved The Show in San Diego

This week is Padres‘ week with our podcast featuring the San Diego Padres scheduled to be released on Friday, July 16th. In 1969, the National League expanded with the creation of the Montreal Expos and San Diego Padres. Five years later, the struggling Padres had been sold conditionally to Washington DC area grocery-chain owner, Joseph Danzansky. Danzansky planned to move the Padres to Washington D.C. Ray Kroc read that the Padres were for sale in a Chicago newspaper.
The Padres received a telephone call informing them that Ray Kroc was interested in purchasing the team. Padre president, Buzzie Bavasi asked how many people were in Kroc’s group. The answer was one. At the 12th hour, Kroc purchased the Padres for $12 million dollars and kept the team in America’s Finest City, San Diego. To put things in perspective, one year earlier George Steinbrenner and a group of investors had purchased the New York Yankees for $8.8 million.

Professor Bukiet and Ed Kasputis are tied with 4 points each
What a difference three months make! On April 2nd, our PhD committee along with Professor Bruce Bukiet and Rodney Johnson made their 2010 Major League predictions. Thirty days ago, Professor Bruce Bukiet from the New Jersey Institute of Technology had the most accurate predictions.
After three months of baseball, Professor Bukiet and Ed Kasputis are tied for the lead with 4 points out of a possible 8. Both men predicted that the New York Yankees, Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves would make the playoffs. Bukiet also predicted that the Texas Rangers would make the playoffs while Kasputis predicted that the Boston Red Sox would make the post season.
Baseball Bob and I Don’t Know are tied for third place with three points each. Our 2010 Major League predictions will be measured again on August 1, 2010.
