Ed Kasputis interviews G. Michael Green about his book, Charlie Finley: The Outrageous Story of Baseball’s Super Showman.
We are in Oakland pondering why the A’s with their great pitching are out of contention. Our PhD Committee talks about Brad Pitt, Moneyball - the movie and all things A’s. Baseball Bob gives us his insight on this year’s A’s season. The Wise Guys share their first time experience at Fenway Park and in another segment of Where in The World is Dave Matejczyk, Dave shares a Charlie Finley story and tells us about the California League. We then pack up and head east to what may be the prettiest Major League ball park – PNC Park. Pittsburgh Pirates here we come!
This week is A’s week with our podcast featuring the Oakland Athletics being released on Friday, August 12th. Moneyball was the 2003 best selling book by Michael Lewis about the Oakland A’s. The movie version will be released on September 23rd.

It’s our second week in the Bay Area. Ed, Farley and Mark explore the San Francisco Bay and the Oakland Athletics. Ed interviews Jay Selman from award winning Grape Radio. Then it’s time to meet the Z-man, photography icon Michael Zagaris. Then it’s off to Napa Valley to interview Tab Borge from Classic Convertible Wine Tours. Last but certainly not least, Ed interviews Steve Elsberry about the 1989 World Series earthquake. Ever sit in the upper deck during an earthquake? Steve has. Our PhD Committee packs up and says good bye to Oakland and hello to Seattle.
Napa Valley is located about an hour north of both San Francisco and Oakland and is one of the nine great wine capitals on earth. This week is A’s week with our podcast featuring the Oakland Athletics being released on Friday, September 10th.
Ed Kasputis will be interviewing two guests about “must see” Napa Valley. Tab Borges from Classic Convertible Wine Tours will talk about his tours from one of his 1947 Packard convertibles that he uses to whisk clients through Napa Valley each day.
Ed will then interview Jay Selman from award winning Grape Radio. Imitation is the best form of flattery. A year ago, even before Baseball PhD had its domain name, our staff was studying and admiring Graperadio.com. ”Graperadio.com had a tremendous influence on the design of both our web site and podcasts,” said Kasputis. ”I’m excited that the passions of Grape Radio and Baseball PhD finally intersect – in Napa Valley. Go A’s!”

Our PhD Committee is in beautiful San Francisco. AT & T Park is spectacular and Farley can’t get enough Gilroy Garlic Fries. After the fries, Ed, Farley and Mark talk Giants baseball and explore the Bay Area. Ed interviews John Burbridge about the 1954 New York Giants and the Wise Guys battle it out over Giants’ history. Our PhD Committee can stay a while, next stop is Oakland.
