Jack Norworth is not a household name but everyone knows his lyrics. Norworth, an actor, singer and songwriter was riding a train in New York City during the Summer of 1908. During that train ride, Norworth was inspired by a sign advertising an upcoming game at the Polo Grounds.
Norworth put a pen to paper and wrote this smash hit. Thirty-two years later in 1940, Norworth attended his first Major League Baseball game. The audio below is from 1908.
