If you ever wonder why so many of us like minor league baseball, it might have something with what goes on outside the game. Like seeing the Chicken! The Chicken is one of many through the years that made games so fun. I never got to see the legendary Max Patkin, but heard he was the best act in the minor leagues.

One of my early memories of the minor league games was watching Dynamite Lady blow herself up at Ainsworth Field. I begged to go to Erie to see the Erie Sailors, and the promo was a lady who went on the field, put herself in a box with a helmet on, and then the box was blown up. While I laughed, my Dad did not find it funny. He shook his head in amazement and disgust, asserting that “someone will try this stupid stunt at home.”

At a minor league park you can get a cheap ticket and brew, dollar dog, and…see Elvis….or even the Blues Brothers.

You might even get to see the chicken and the little chicks…

I agree. The Famous San Diego Chicken started that whole experience of going to a game and being entertained between innings.
