Professor Bruce Bukiet Wins Again!

The Power of Math beats Baseball Intuition again
This week is Brewers‘ week with our podcast featuring the Milwaukee Brewers being released on Friday, September 30th. It’s been a great year for both the Brewers and Baseball PhD. Who could script the close of this exciting baseball regular season?
In the American League, the Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox are tied for the wild card position with one game to go. In the National League it’s the same with the Cardinals and Braves also tied for the wild card position with one game to go. Could the regular season be extended on Thursday with the 163rd game of the regular season?
While there still remains much uncertainty regarding these two final playoff spots, Professor Bruce Bukiet from the New Jersey Institute of Technology has again won our 2011 MLB Predictions Contest. Buiket successfully predicted that the Yankees, Tigers and Rangers would make the playoffs. Bukiet further predicted that the Red Sox, Braves and Cardinals would make the playoffs. Should the Red Sox make the playoffs, this would be the second year in a row that the Professor has successfully chosen all 4 American League Playoff teams. Ed Kasputis will interview and congratulate Professor Buiket for his learned predictions during our next podcast.
Can Professor Bukiet turn a triple play in 2012 …
… by using his head?

Can the Professor Repeat?
This week is Astros week with our podcast featuring the Houston Astros being released on Friday, September 2nd. Ed Kasputis will be interviewing Timothy De Block from crawfishboxes.com and James Yasko from astroscounty.com about their beloved Astros.
On another note, with 30 days left in the regular season, Professor Bruce Bukiet from the New Jersey Institute of Technology is leading in our predictions contest. If the season would end today, 6 of Bukiet’s 8 teams would make the playoffs (Red Sox, Yankees, Tigers, Rangers, Phillies & Braves.) Jonathan Eig and Baseball PhD’s Mark Rantala are tied for second with 5 teams that would make the playoffs today.
“The key is the American League Central.” says Ed Kasputis, Creative Director of Baseball PhD. “Professor Bukiet has picked the Tigers while Jonathan Eig has chosen the White Sox. Whoever wins the AL Central will win it all. Catching the Professor will be as hard as catching the motivated Astros fan whose video is below.”

The Power of Math rules Again!
Once again Professor Bruce Bukiet from the New Jersey Institute of Technology has proven that the power of math is a rock star. Bukiet is in the lead for our 2011 MLB predictions contest with a score of 7.5 out of 8. If the season were to end on July 1, the following 8 teams would make the playoffs.
American League
New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers & Texas Rangers
National League
Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals (tied with Milwaukee Brewers) & San Francisco Giants
Bukiet would have received a perfect score had the Milwaukee Brewers failed to be tied for first place in the NL Central. Currently second in our contest is best selling author, Jonathan Eig with a score of 5.5. Eig so far has correctly predicted that the Yankees, Red Sox, Phillies, Braves, Brewers and Giants will make the playoffs.

The Professor takes the lead (as usual)
May 1st marks the first measurement of our Baseball PhD MLB Predictions Contest. The concept is simple. Pick the eight teams that will make the Major League Baseball playoffs and get a point for each team that you pick correct. The only score that counts is when the season concludes on Wednesday, September 29th.
9 Participants
This contest has nine participants. Each participant has predicted that the Red Sox and Phillies will make the 2011 playoffs. Consequently, everyone’s other six picks will determine the outcome of the contest. If the season were to end on April 30th, the 8 playoff teams would be:
American League National League
New York Yankees Philadelphia Phillies
Cleveland Indians St. Louis Cardinals
Texas Rangers Colorado Rockies
LA Angels/Tampa Bay Rays Florida Marlins
No Participant has picked the Indians, Rays or Marlins to make the playoffs
Last year’s defending champion, Professor Bruce Bukiet currently has four points (Yankees, Rangers, Phillies & Cardinals). In second with 3.5 points (Yankees, Angels, Phillies & Rockies) is Rodney Johnson form playballexperience.com.
4 Participants are tied in third with three points
Andre Lower (Yankees, Phillies & Rockies) from baseballbypositions.com is tied with each member of our PhD Committee with three points each. We’ll see in another 30 days if Professor Bukiet’s’ power of math wins the day again.
